A very good friend once told me that running is one of the best ways to get your mind off something. It gives you the feeling of literally running away from everything; and for a while, it’s just you and the rush, nothing else matters. When you are running, the world melts away in the background. Everything revolves around you, the ground, and the breeze blowing on your hair, your sweat, and the stamina to keep running. Pretty invigorating, isn’t it? The only thing that can get in the way of you and your “escape” is a bad pair of running shoes.

I know getting the best running shoes could be a bit of a challenge, and that is why we will come up with a checklist before you even plan on going to a shoe store. This checklist will include bits and pieces of information that will eventually lead you to getting running shoes that will keep you running.

Know Your Feet

Have you ever heard of the saying, “not all feet were created equal”; probably not because I totally made that up. My point is, it’s true – some feet are just bigger or wider than the rest. So get acquainted with your feet or to fancy things up, know your feet biometrics. This way, you will know what would fit it best.

Do not be afraid to be detailed when asking questions from your podiatrist. After your consult, you are expected to know your exact shoe size including the width. Also ask if you will need orthotic socks when running or if you require a special type of shoes – motion control, cushioned, or stability running shoes.

Know what All the Running is for

In getting a pair of running shoes, it is not only enough that it fits your feet snugly; it also has to serve its purpose. For example, some shoes are durable enough to withstand marathons, while others are not. You have to let the salesman know what you are buying these shoes for.

Go Shopping with the Best

Now, don’t get me wrong; the “best” do not necessarily have to be the most expensive. The “best” is the pair of running shoes that fits your feet, robust enough to endure running, and most importantly comfortable enough to even make you want to run. Take your time, try everything worth fitting. If the best pair of running shoes is not in the store you’re in, try the next one and another until you get it right. One more thing, it’s always best to go shoe-shopping in the afternoon because that is usually the time your feet swells the most.

Clearly, there are a lot more to consider in buying running shoes, than the color of the shoelaces. This simple checklist can actually save you a whole lot of pain from a sprain or even an ankle injury.
